On February 28, 2019, the California Virtual Campus – Online Education Initiative (CVC-OEI), in partnership with the Online Network of Educators (@ONE), hosted the system’s second annual CCC Digital Learning Day, which was part of the international Digital Learning Day celebration. This free, online conference showcased teaching and learning innovations in California and beyond that foster digital literacy across the curriculum. CVC-OEI/@ONE’s free online conferences provide equitable professional development for the system’s 90,000+ faculty, staff, and administrators by allowing attendees to participate online or from an on-campus viewing room.

The program included a keynote presentation by Bonni Stachowiak, host of the Teaching in Higher Ed podcast, and was followed by a full day of sessions featuring CCC faculty and students. A student panel was moderated by professor Fabiola Torres from Glendale Community College.

In total, 791 faculty from 100 California community colleges attended the event, which is a 49 percent increase from 2018. Seventy-seven percent of participants attended online, and the audience was made up of 40.8 percent full-time faculty, 37.6 percent adjunct faculty, 11.3 percent classified, 4.6 percent administrators, and 0.8 percent students. Participants who completed the evaluation rated the experience 4.7 out of five stars.
