More Data, Better Alignment: COCI–C-ID Integration Update 

Behind every approved course and program is a detailed process of data entry, review, and approval. For years, curriculum specialists and faculty often re-entered the same information in multiple systems — necessary but time-consuming work.

Through ongoing collaboration between the Chancellor’s Office and the California Community Colleges Technology Center, the existing connection between the Chancellor’s Office Curriculum Inventory (COCI) and Course Identification (C-ID) is expanding. The update adds more mapped data elements and better support for Common Course Numbering (CCN). Participation is optional, and the exchange is not fully automated — campuses will continue to review, validate, and approve in each system.

For the fields included, colleges can expect less duplicate entry and improved consistency across platforms, with additional elements phased in as they’re tested. “We’re broadening the COCI–C-ID connection to cover more elements that matter for CCN,” said Rachel Stamm, Product Manager for COCI and C-ID. “It won’t replace local review, but it should streamline specific steps and cut down on re-entry where the mapping applies.”

By automating data sharing between COCI and C-ID, the Technology Center is helping streamline curriculum management and strengthen the foundation for statewide initiatives like Common Course Numbering. Together, these advances are making the behind-the-scenes work of curriculum management faster, smarter, and more student-centered.
