We want to inform you of a recent change in the user interface of the Grades section in the course management system. The interface has been updated and students can no longer see video, audio, or file comments when they click on the comment icon. Instead, they must click on the assignment title and go to the Submit Assignment screen to access this feedback.

As a best practice, we recommend letting students know if you have provided feedback in the form of video, audio, or a file. However, it’s important to note that students may not know how to access this feedback, so we encourage you to provide instructions on how to find it. You can leave text comments with specific instructions on how to locate the media or files, or direct them to the Canvas Guide for Students: How do I view grades in a current course.

We’ve submitted a Canvas Idea to include media and files in the feedback pop-out tray, which would make it much easier for students to access this information. However, we have to wait until the voting window opens, which only happens twice a year.

If you have any suggestions on how to make this process easier for students, we welcome your feedback. In the meantime, please be aware of this change and provide your students with clear instructions on how to access all forms of feedback.
