Diversity and inclusion are foundational values for California Community Colleges, opening pathways for current and prospective students with disabilities to engage and participate in campus communities. Accessibility, at both an institutional level and within our classrooms, is the application of these values toward creating opportunities for students with disabilities to achieve academic excellence and contribute to an educated workforce.

The CCC Accessibility Center, a systemwide initiative funded by the Chancellor’s Office and supported by the CCC Technology Center, provides technical expertise, institutional best practices, and implementation solutions to advance web and information technology accessibility and remove barriers for students with disabilities. Tools and resources include applications to scan and monitor web pages for accessibility errors; guidance for the procurement of accessible IT products; and an online Accessibility Help Desk to answer questions and conduct accessibility evaluations.

As of August, the High Tech Center Training Unit (HTCTU) initiative will join with the CCC Accessibility Center to continue trainings and workshops in the areas of assistive technology and creation of alternate formats in support of students with disabilities. The Accessibility Center will also work to broaden its scope in support of DSPS faculty and staff working with students with disabilities and communicate effective practices for building accessible technology solutions campus-wide.
