Five free, self-paced accessibility micro-courses are now available to colleges to download and install on their local versions of Canvas.
Designed by the California Community Colleges Accessibility Center in collaboration with @ONE, the self-paced, non-facilitated micro-courses discuss how to create electronic content and instructional resources that are accessible to all campus community members. Available micro-courses include:
- Canvas Accessibility
- Microsoft Word Accessibility
- PDF Accessibility
- PowerPoint Accessibility
- Video Captioning
Additional micro-courses are currently in development. Visit Canvas Commons and search “CVC-OEI Adoptable” to download the micro-courses, which are also available on the @ONE course catalog.
Micro-courses are not eligible for a badge or continuing education units from the California Virtual Campus-Online Education Initiative (CVC-OEI) or the CCC Accessibility Center. However, they can be used to create a customized workshop series to guide and track faculty’s participation in accessibility professional development, or be provided as a self-paced resource for college staff. Colleges adopting these micro-courses locally can create their own professional development pathways or credits.
The CCC Accessibility Center offers training and technical assistance on a variety of topics, including web accessibility, assistive computer technologies, alternate format creation, and how to integrate accessibility into online instruction.
