California Community College ID Helping Fulfill the Vision for Success

DF Hero Build

As the fall semester commenced across the California Community Colleges, the CCCID reached a prolific milestone—10 million unique student IDs have been issued since the account creation process was established in 2016.

CCCID is a unique identifier created for every student that enters the community college system. It is generated when an individual creates an OpenCCC account—typically during the application process through CCCApply.

For students, the CCCID provides a secure, single sign-on to cloud applications such as Canvas and CCC MyPath. At the college, district and system level, it is an effective way to track students that attend multiple colleges and tie together longitudinal data for institutional decision making and reporting of Vision for Success tracking metrics.

When a student applies to a California community college, the CCCID is passed to the college in the CCCApply data download and may be stored locally in the SIS if the college chooses to do so. Colleges also have the option to share the CCCID with the Chancellor’s Office to align with the California Cradle-to-Career Data System, currently under development, and allow better reporting in support of student success.

As a common data attribute among shared CCC technologies, the CCCID creates a single, systemwide view of the student, allowing for more accurate institutional reporting through the CCC Data Warehouse Report Server. Technologies where the CCCID is present include: CCCApply Standard, International and Noncredit applications, the digital California College Promise Grant application, CCC MyPath, Canvas and the Multiple Measures Placement Service.
