New TechConnect Zoom Feature Can Enhance Students' Interactions With Faculty

The California Community Colleges continues to enhance students’ online learning experiences and promote student success with technology solutions from TechConnect. The latest enhancement, TechConnect Zoom, is a secure web-based meeting tool providing students, faculty and staff with several ways to interact.

Introduced last year as “CCC Confer,” the recently rebranded TechConnect Zoom features high-quality audio and video communications across all operating systems, browsers and mobile devices. TechConnect Zoom is available for Canvas integration at no cost.

Through TechConnect Zoom, students can view upcoming events, recordings and reserve private appointments with faculty, and faculty can schedule classes, office hours and private appointments. All TechConnect Zoom users can customize settings for email notifications and sync events with their personal calendars.

Popularity linked to ease-of-use and multiple user benefits

TechConnect Zoom’s nearly systemwide adoption and increasing popularity are attributed to its ease-of-use and multiple user benefits. To use the tool, students simply need to log in to Canvas for access, and faculty and staff can quickly create an account on the TechConnect website or by contacting TechConnect support. Once their account is set up, faculty and staff can sync their Zoom account in Canvas.

“It allows students to easily see their professor’s availability and conveniently schedule or delete an appointment,” said Database Analyst Mirla O. Garcia. Garcia is responsible for the configuration and support of colleges’ 3C Media Solutions and TechConnect Zoom Canvas integrations.

Senior Media Help Desk Specialist Donna Gustafson added that appointments can assist students in getting the help they need. “Appointments are for situations in which students need to talk to professors about personal matters that may impact their attendance or for students who are concerned about their grades,” Gustafson said. Garcia said TechConnect has received very positive feedback from users throughout the California Community Colleges. In an effort to keep pace with user needs, TechConnect will continue to introduce new features offering even more benefits and greater flexibility for students, faculty and staff.

All but two community colleges have integrated TechConnect Zoom into Canvas. Register for your TechConnect Zoom account now at cccconfer.org.
