Supporting Student Success Through Digital Equity Resources

Every California community college student deserves the opportunity to succeed, regardless of where they live or whether they have reliable internet, a personal device, or the digital skills needed to participate fully in college. Today, digital equity is an essential part of student success.

While many California community colleges already offer technology loan programs and connectivity initiatives, a growing network of statewide digital equity resources can help colleges and districts expand that support and connect more students with the tools they need to succeed. 

As the California Community Colleges Technology Center continues working with colleges and statewide partners to expand access to technology and digital services, these resources provide practical tools colleges and districts can share with students. They help overcome barriers to learning, improve digital access, and strengthen student success. 

As part of California’s Broadband for All initiative, the California Digital Equity Resource Finder brings together programs that help residents locate affordable internet options, obtain low-cost devices, build digital skills, and access technical support. Designed for both Californians and the organizations that serve them, the Resource Finder makes it easier to connect students with services available in their communities. In addition, the following statewide partners offer resources that colleges and districts can incorporate into student support efforts and share directly with students: 

• California Emerging Technology Fund offers assistance with enrolling in low-cost internet programs, digital literacy and digital navigation training, device access, and workforce development resources.
• EveryoneOn helps residents identify affordable internet plans for their specific address, making it easier for students to find connectivity options that meet their needs.
• Human-I-T provides free or low-cost devices, virtual technical support, workforce development resources, and digital skills training — including artificial intelligence learning opportunities.

Together, these programs help address common barriers that can affect student persistence and academic success. Whether a student needs an affordable home internet connection, a reliable device, assistance navigating technology, or opportunities to strengthen digital skills, these resources provide additional pathways to support learning.

For colleges and districts, these resources can complement existing student support services by giving faculty, counselors, librarians, IT staff, and student services teams additional tools to connect students with affordable internet, devices, digital skills training, and technical assistance. These partnerships help ensure more learners have the resources they need to participate fully in college life and achieve their educational goals.
