CCCApply overhaul to be driven by student-centered design and behavioral sciences

College Spotlight:
Amazon partners with L.A. community colleges for cloud computing program

The California Cloud Workforce project, composed of Los Angeles-area community colleges and partner high schools, and Amazon Web Services, a leader in providing cloud services, have established a 15-credit certificate program at the 19 colleges.

The partnership will offer participating students experience in the high-demand field of cloud computing.

OEI partners with CSU Online for successful summer project

This summer, the Online Education Initiative (OEI) partnered with CSU Online to launch an online course finder called ‘Finish Faster!’ that provides students with access to more than 10,000 online, transferable classes. The new course finder gives CSU students the flexibility to complete lower-division general education requirements during the summer through online coursework offered at a California Community College or CSU campus.

MyPath: A Bridge from Application to Enrollment

MyPath is a student onboarding tool that designed to help students navigate through their educational journey by providing students with an individually tailored and structured pathway that includes career and program exploration, goal-setting, and just-in-time and follow-up messaging. Colleges adopting MyPath to support their Guided Pathways initiatives have found that the tool can help solve the pervasive problem of enrollment attrition.

ConferZoom provides added benefits for online education

CCC Confer has transitioned to ConferZoom, a new web-based conferencing tool by Zoom for online meetings and classes. ConferZoom easily integrates with Canvas, making it simple for students to connect with their instructors for classes and office hours. Connections support all operating systems and browsers, including iOS and Android mobile devices.

CCC Accessibility Center expands services to support access for students with disabilities

As of August, the High Tech Center Training Unit (HTCTU) initiative will join with the CCC Accessibility Center to continue trainings and workshops in the areas of assistive technology and creation of alternate formats in support of students with disabilities. In concert with other systemwide initiatives, the CCC Accessibility Center will broaden its scope to support DSPS faculty and staff working with students with disabilities and to communicate effective practices for building accessible technology solutions campus-wide.

CCC Information Security Center

The CCC Information Security Center proactively assesses the information security needs of the community colleges, and offers services to campuses designed to maintain the integrity of information systems.

Working directly with the CCC technology community to understand security priorities, the center develops appropriate services, conducts security assessments for the colleges, provides training through bi-annual workshops, and oversees security practices at the CCC Technology Center and Systemwide Technology Initiatives.

Vision Resource Center provides colleges with tools, communities

The Vision Resource Center, previously the Professional Learning Network, is an online hub for faculty, staff, administrators, and trustees offering training and resources. Connect with colleagues across campus, regions, and with the Chancellor’s Office.

College Spotlight:
Palomar College faculty and staff use Vision Resource Center to earn credit for professional development.  

Since launching last August, more than 1,600 employees have used Palomar’s version of the Vision Resource Center to access professional development. “At Palomar, we see many benefits to using the Vision Resource Center,” said Kelly Falcone, faculty professional development coordinator.

Improvements to CCCApply

A large-scale, collaborative effort led by the state Chancellor’s Office is under way to simplify and reduce the number of questions in CCCApply, using a more streamlined, student-centered design. Implementation is projected for fall 2019.

Finish Faster Online Summer Results

CCC’s Online Education Initiative (OEI) course finder, Finish Faster Online, continues to yield strong results. Nearly 900 students completed an application and enrolled in a course between May and September.

Vulnerability Management: A Free Service of the California Community Colleges Information Security Center

The CCC Information Security Center offers a cloud-based tool for colleges to assess IT network security risks. A free service for all community colleges, using CCCSecurityCenter.org can help you recognize vulnerabilities that will protect your college's data.

California Community Colleges Boost Access By Closing Conference Gap

The California Community College system is using a new technology called Zoom, or ConferZoom, to allow students, faculty, and staff to attend classes and meetings from anywhere with the flexibility to join from a computer, laptop, phone, or mobile device.

The CCC Accessibility Center has posted 3-5 minute web developer tutorials for creating accessible web content, specifically highlighting techniques supporting accessibility for a wide audience.

TechConnect Integrates Media and Video Conferencing into Canvas

CCCTechConnect has experienced widespread adoption of its Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) throughout the system. Two LTI’s are currently available to CCC faculty from within Canvas: one for 3C Media Solutions (media integration) and one for ConferZoom (video conferencing).
